Hello, My male Rottweiler has the worst gas! It is so bad that we must leave the room or put a fan on the dog, it’s like that every night! I wonder if anyone has any home remedies or if anyone knows of drugs that can help this problem.  Dog has Addison’s disease, which I think is one of deffiency hormone cortisol in the adrenal glands affecting his kidney. I do not know if this would contribute to the dog gas problem, but it is medicated daily with prednisone. Any advice or ideas on how to stop dog gas would be greatly appreciated! Thank.

My dog is 3 years old. There was a problem of itching when he was 1 years old and started with Vanectyl-P (2 mg of prednisone was mixed with 5 mg of an antihistamine). For 2 years I have done everything possible to try to leave the Vanectyl-P. All types of homeopathic treatments and diets that he actually was not taking any Vanectyl-P! The only problem, which was basically a vegetarian and can not live like this for a long period of time (enough protein and other nutrients important, obviously. We note that the essence is allergic to any animal protein).

It was 2 years, and now I believe it has Addison’s disease, and now definitely needs some kind of steroid (addisionian We think there was a crisis – was hospitalized – this is where the adrenal glands stop producing steroids – he p vanectyl was out for about a week now.)

Anyway, my question is, does anyone out there has some experience of giving your dog a low dose of prednisone for life? How long before you start seeing the effects of prednisone take care of your body? A few years ago? 2 years ago and is quite normal. Only major side effects are more frequent urination and a little more aggressive. His scratching is under control, with only 1 tablet per day. He is 50 pounds (20 kilograms or less) to receive 2 mg prednisone daily. What can I expect to be much prednisone for life? Anyone out there with experience? a long term experience?

I was wondering if there was any way to prevent adrenal gland disease in ferrets, and any other common diseases? What are the odds of my ferret getting adrenal, or any other disease? reason i’m asking is not for cost, but i get very attatched to my pets. When my one dog died, i was miserable for about a month or 2 i’d say. I was only 6 at the time, but still… Also, what would be best, a male or a female? it probably be a marshall farm’s. And I hear the ferret male’s have less of a rate getting adrenal, ect.?

P.S. I’ve heard about the keeping them in complete dark at night and regular light during the day thing (how many hours of dark and light if this works?), also I read something about a shot that could prevents it, or something, it began with an “L”..Lupron maybe? something like that..

I work at a vet clinic, and while we had a relief vet this week, she mentioned that at a behavior seminar she had attended, they said that with aggressive female dogs, spaying can make the problem worse because the estrogen isn’t there to mediate the testosterone put out by the adrenal glands. I have been looking this up on the internet and have found conflicting information. I was wondering if anyone here had seen this/heard about it? Before anyone gets on their soap box, I’m not suggesting people not spay and neuter their pets, and I’m not suggesting aggressive pets be allowed to breed and pass on this temperament. And dont’ insult my intelligence by telling me that that spaying/neutering FIXES aggression- I’m educated, and I work in a vet clinic, I have seen MANY aggressive dogs and cats that have been spayed/neutered, and aren’t the tiniest fraction better after. I’m simply asking if anyone has seen the problem get WORSE in female dogs who already have aggression.
