Aside from using a spot on treatment, for immediate results you can get capstar from your vet. This pill will start killing fleas in as little as 10 min and the pills cost about $6 each. Keep in mind that fleas live most of their time OFF the pets so you must treat their environment to keep them away. Try checking for a powder treatment for lawns and carpets that kills fleas and is safe for pets. Also, by being vigilant in watching for fleas you have a better chance of keeping them gone.

I used to use BioSpot spot on treatment. It's really good. My pets never had fleas while they were on it. I had to stop using it because one of my pets developed a little bald patch because he was sensitive to it, but that was after years of use. The product used to come with a couple of free flea wipes to instantly kill the adults on the cat as well, and it worked very well - I used it on a lot of my foster cats.

They make other products such as a spray and powder for bedding and the house. I'd use that, it was very inexpensive and you can get it at places like PetSmart online.

cedar bedding would be the best thing. all natural and rather cheap, and not too bad a smell. aside from that you can try a flea collar.
