To Angela S: your dog has signs of steroid-induced cushings. Please see your vet ASAP as it can be resolved if meds are discontinued.

My dog (now 14) started coughing uncontrollably 2 years ago. She was diagnosed with a "benign mediastinal mass" and "esophageal stricture". She has been on prednisolone for 2 years: 1 pill every other day for the 1st year & 1/2, then increased to 2 pills every other day for the last 6 months. Yes, she is always hungry (& has been so her entire life!) and she pees all the time (wears diapers now) BUT she has a good quality of life & appears "happy". Her blood tests (twice/year) are good. (She has also been on thyroid medication for over 2 years with no problems.) My other dog (now 13) started gagging 1 year ago and was diagnosed with "severe tracheal collapse". She has been on prednisolone for 1 year, 2 pills every other day. Blood tests are good. She also pees a lot and wants to eat non-stop but she seems to be "happy" as well. I used to be afraid of steroids. Not anymore! Bless 'em!

My Dog has been on prednisione for about 8 years of his life. I think it is the worst thing I ever did for him. The side effects after 8 years are amazingly bad. He has thinning of his fur, frequent urination, always thirsty. He also does not respond to any other types of natural remedies, because his immune system is so damaged from the medication (vanectly p). I would highly suggest trying everything you can from a naturopathic vet before using steriods. They are really bad for your pet over the long term

I know several dogs who have to take prednisone for a whole, but do not know the exact details. I also know several people who have Addison's disease / adrenal insufficiency mí.Basado, including me and I know about the disease is likely to have to take his life. When I was diagnosed in 1998, it took me a few days to look better and feel better. I guess that would be the same for your dog. You should contact a veterinarian about how your dog must have for your life. Probably will stay in a dose actual. Just can do some research on the internet. Or talk to your vet about it. They know better.

My sisters dog was on Vanectly P for many years. It was a lab that lived to be 14 years of age years. If control your skin problems, and she is being supervised by a veterinarian (blood), may be what you need to do. It must be very uncomfortable for him to be itchy, not to mention the wounds from scratching and licking can follow. If this works and gives the quality of the dog in your life is worth.
