Odour of Cat Anal Gland Secretion?
How would you describe the odour of anal gland secretion? The reason I ask is because my cat got really excited and suddenly there were drops of something on the ground. I did not put the two together and I wiped it and it smelled. The smell was stomach turning to say the least. . . This was not a fecal odor, really, but more than one. . funk? EXTREME funk. Was it my cat?

Sure sounds like an anal gland secretion. It has a pungent, foul odor, musky (think skunk, but not quite pleasant), and is used to mark territory and send unwanted visitors. It can also “free” because of stress or excitement. If this continues, however, you may want to go to the vet and have to show you how to free anal bags (lucky!) Because your cat do so frequently could mean the bags must be released (not pleasant, but not that smelly in the long term).
