Sitting for a Cat With Diabetes

I am sitting for a cat with diabetes. The cat will not enable me to give it a shot, when it sees me it runs. The final time I tried it bit and clawed me. I like the house owners a lot, but I am not positive about this cat. I am not keen to injure my different hand for a pet that isn’t mine. Do you will have options upon how one can give the cat her treatment? Her homeowners will be back Sunday, will it’s okay for her to not have a shot that long?

I have owned cats earlier than that wanted remedy, but insulin is a first for me. I am not sure the place I ought to go from here.
Plus, as she is diabetic, I’d assume that ordinary cat treats aren’t allowed. So, I can not briber her to get her to like me.
sadly this cat solely eats dry food. I am on maintain with the vet for what they suggest that I should do.

I don’t want this cat to have well being issues, however it quite actually runs from me when it sees me. It will not come near me at all.
I’m considering asking the vet if I can board her there. I am prepared to take the time to catch her if it means that she is correctly taken care of. The money is not a problem, its the truth that this cat wants nothing to do with me and its endangering her.
Simply so its clear, the cat is in its own residence, its not at mine.
I am boarding her on the vet and am pretty positive I can catch her quickly.

Thanks for everybodies help.

Ok the cat NEEDs its med. He is also upset because he is away from his home and his people. Clearly his owners love him or else they would not go through the trouble and expense. They are depending on you to take care of him.
    1. ask a friend or neighbor to help. Gloves wouldnt be a bad idea.
    2. catch the cat. and wrap him up in a towel or small blanket.
    3.give shot

If you still can’t do it.. call a vet clinic and ask if they will do it for you or explain to you the best technique. I am sure the owners will be glad that you ensured their cat got its med and would reimburse you the few bucks it would cost. or even call their vet and ask for help or a sedative/ "happy pill" to give him in his food to mellow him out. If you explain the problem they might even help for free.

Can you call the owners? maybe you need to consider boarding him with someone that can handle it. I am sure if you explain to your friends that you really couldnt do it, they wont be upset. They probably had no idea it would go badly. I am SURE they would rather have a healthy, live cat.

There are lot of things to try.. the advice here is generally good. Just do something! Good Luck!

ADD: yes, boarding her at the vet is a fabulous idea!

Get someone else to (wear gloves you too) and have them hold the cat down. Call the owners and tell them or take the cat to a vet who will help you out for free. The cat needs it meds or you are going to have a sick cat on your hands and your friends will be mad at you for letting their cat die!

My parents cat is diabetic, and this is what my mom does (and what the vet recommended). She gives him his favorite food, and while he is eating it, she comes up behind him, pinches the skin on the back of his neck, and gives him the shot. He’s usually so happy to eat that he doesn’t even care. But he is also a pig.. lol

  4. Call a vet for best methods. You may have to take the cat in for the shot and ask for reimbursement when the owners get back. You accepted the responsibility of caring for their pet so be responsible. Better for them to come home owing you than to have a seriously ill or dead pet.

I have a diabetic cat, and he’s not happy getting shots, either. I have to hold his feet with one hand, then put him on a counter, to get him to stay still enough for the shot.

I don’t know if you know this……but, it’s imperative that she EATS BEFORE giving him her insulin. I try to give mine some canned meat about 45 minutes before his shot is due. Then, he’s more relaxed when I go to pick him up.

If you have to…….get someone else to help you. Try not to stress the cat, though, because that can send her blood suger skyrocketing. If necessary, call your vet, and see if he’d be willing to let you bring the cat to him, and he’d give the shots. I know that would be 2 times a day, but the cat NEEDS to have her insulin!

If nothing else works, call your friend, explain the situation, and ASK THEM what they want you to do!!

    Good luck………………
